Here’s an example of a recent project in which we used infrared heating panels as the sole source of heating: The Old Free Church in Scotland. With granite walls and 10 foot high ceilings and huge rooms, in the far north of Scotland, there was a big challenge to provide an economic and effective heating. Infrared panels provided that. We hid the electric wires within the partitions and behind skirting boards, and each zone is controlled by a thermostat timer.
Using a conventional radiator central heating system wouldn't have been a wise option. With conventional space heating working from the ceiling down and the lack of insulation, it would have taken a huge energy input by a boiler to raise the ambient temperature to a comfortable level. Infrared panels, on the other hand, immediately and directly heated the occupants and their living space.

*Update - on a recent visit to this property (April 2015), we found the temperature in the 26ft x 19ft as a 10ft high sitting room at 28 degrees...! Our representative said it was the hottest room he had ever sat in, outside of a sauna!
