Infrared heating can be used in a wide variety of applications including educational establishments. In this case the property was a Victorian build with many issues including mould, damp and cold spots.
After due diligence and a site survey the school decided that infrared technology would be the most cost-effective solution both in terms of installation and running costs.
The mould and damp were a concern as the areas were populated by students. The school also recognised the health benefits of the far infrared heating.
Pre-existing heating system was a traditional convection wet pipe heating system which was ineffective and took too long to heat up, putting a strain on the old boilers. We replaced this with a mixture of infrared panels and multi-purpose space heaters.
The school hall that was used everyday for assembly and physical education for the students, was a priority area that needed to reach a comfortable level with a rapid warm up time. With the old radiators and high ceilings, the air was constantly being heated and was going up to the highest point of the ceiling and not giving effective heat to the rest of the room which resulted in a long warm up period.
The classrooms made use of ceiling panels installed in such a way that they could not be tampered with but also give a good, even heat distribution across the room. For areas with high ceilings or ceilings that were not suitable for ceiling panels drop chains were used.
Certain rooms and corridors required ceiling grid tiles to make the most of the available ceiling matrix which were used to maximum potential and distributed the wattage through a number 0.28KW watt panels (595mm x 595mm).
The real positive for the school was a healthier heating source, which was more effective and efficient for a fraction of the price of similar convection type systems.
With the added assistance and confidence of a cost analysis and no maintenance whatsoever, this ensured a quick return on investment and the school were very impressed and satisfied with the results.
